Writer’s block… a cruel and unpredictable affliction for many professionals and amateurs abound. Including a few of us at OD… but we’ll name no names. Video and social media aren’t always straightforward processes! Not being able to articulate your point even when you know exactly what to say can leave writers with feelings of confusion, panic and major crises of confidence. This week we’re looking at Write Invisible - the writing service for you to spill your thoughts out where no one can see them, helping you clear your mind and refocus your skills. 

Write Invisible is free to signup during its beta phase, we will update this once there is a pricing change. Write Invisible has a rustic approach to its website, this resonated with us as it holds an authenticity that set our minds at ease as soon as we signed up. The signups are straightforward enough, use your email account and start your membership, and once you’re in, you can type away. Write Invisible comes from the innovative mind of Ebrahim-Khalil Hassen, as he found when the going went tough, he needed a space for his writing to breathe. Here are some words from the man himself, “I have never suffered writer’s block until I struggled to complete my MA research paper. I hacked together a solution for this. Literally within a couple of weeks, I had completed a draft done. I did not know it at the time but others found the website helpful. Some background might help – I work as an independent public policy analyst, which is my vocation. I work as a freelancer so being able to write quickly and clearly is a must. Over the next few months, I had about a dozen regular users. The only challenge was the name “Eishapp” – which makes sense in South Africa, and nowhere else. Hence, the rebranding to Write Invisible.”

Start typing in the Write Invisible window, and watch nothing happen. Your text is completely invisible, which is the point, let your mind free of physical restraint and the words will pour out of your fingertips. We were sceptical too, but it really works. We wrote most of this review on the website itself, so we couldn’t see any of it for long periods, but the experience was invigorating and thoroughly effective. We found that any difficulties in thinking about what to write were alleviated by the process of physically writing, which was fascinating. We don’t know the science behind it, but Ebrahim-Khalil Hassen might be onto something very clever here, a more cosmic approach to tool development, and one that we will be using from now on. There isn’t much to say about Write Invisible itself, you can’t see it, you can just feel the benefits. Its interface is very easy to navigate and as we mentioned, we like its simple design. No frills, no spills. Try it out for yourself, there isn’t much to say except it’s a highly intriguing and original solution to a common and frustrating problem.
